Traffic Management (Full Course)
Course Overview Traffic Management Implementation is aimed at persons required to read, interpret, and implement a traffic management plan. Traffic Management Implementation provides the skills and knowledge required to implement a traffic guidance scheme for roadwork, ensuring traffic flow is maintained and safety of the public is maximised.
Course Outcome It is expected that participants will acquire knowledge, skill and understanding of the following areas:
  • Determine work requirements for sites
  • Interpret and set out sites in accordance with traffic guidance schemes provided • Communicate with team members
  • Monitor and record traffic guidance schemes
  • Remove traffic guidance schemes • Secure and shut down sites
Queensland only - In addition to RIIWHS305E, students completing this course will also achieve competency in RIIRIS301E - Apply risk management processes.
Course Requirements

To attend this course, you will need to:

  • Be able to read and write Basic English (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement)
  • Bring photographic ID to the course

Participants must hold a General Construction Induction White Card as they will be working on worksites or roadworks.
Although this is not a pre-requisite to complete the Traffic Management training with All States Training, it is a requirement to be able to work on any traffic sites.

As part of completing this course, the following two (2) courses are a MANDATORY requirement by Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) for any person(s) enrolling into RIIWHS302E Implement Traffic Management Plans:

  • Working in Proximity to Traffic Part 1 – Awareness.
  • Working in Proximity to Traffic Part 2 – Works Protection Methods.

Important: These courses are completed online via the TMR website. Fees apply and are paid directly to TMR by the learner. Go to 
https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/business-industry/Commercial-services/Technical-training to access. Copies of your certificate of completion must be supplied when enrolling.

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)/Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) is not offered for this course.

Course Duration

To achieve a successful outcome, participants must complete the following:

  1. Theory training: 8 hours (nominal) – completed in classroom environment using TMR approved training resources
  2. Practical assessment: participants produce documented evidence of performing 3 separate signage setups or varying complexity on live job sites


Course Assessments

Participants are required to successfully complete a written assessment in the classroom. Upon return to the workplace, participants are required to implement a minimum of three (3) traffic guidance schemes as per TMR legislative requirements. The participant must have a qualified employer representative with a minimum of 2 years experience as a TMI to sign off on the three (3) schemes. Participants have 3 months from the date of theory training to complete and submit site setups for final assessments.

Queensland only - In addition to RIIWHS305E, students completing this course will also achieve competency in RIIRIS301E - Apply risk management processes.

Upon completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment and TMI card issued by All States Training. TMI cards are issued for a period of 3 years.

Traffic Management (Renewal Course)
Course Requirements To renew your traffic management implementation accreditation in Queensland, you are required to successfully complete the Department of Transport & Main Roads (TMR) approved training program and demonstration currency of industry practice in Traffic Management Implementation.

Your TMI card must be renewed every three (3) years. It is your responsibility to ensure you maintain current accreditation when performing traffic management duties.

To attend this course, you will need to:
  • Be able to read and write Basic English (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement)
  • Bring photographic ID and current TMI card to the course
Course Duration  Theory training: 8 hours (nominal) – completed in classroom environment using TMR approved training resources.
Course Assessments  Participants will be required to complete a written assessment in the classroom, in addition to providing required evidence of industry currency.

Participants are to provide copy of certificate of completion of the online TMR mandatory training - Working in Proximity to Traffic (Parts 1 and 2).

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)/Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) is not offered for this course.

To show industry currency, participants are to complete a Currency of Industry Practice and provide evidence of having implemented 3 traffic guidance schemes as per TMR legislative requirements within the past 12 months, as required by TMR.

Participants must have a qualified employer representative with a minimum of 2 years experience as a TMI to sign off on the three (3) schemes.

Participants have 3 months from the date of theory training to complete and submit site setups for final assessments.

Upon completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment and TMI card issued by All States Training. TMI cards are issued for a period of 3 years.

Participant's personal information will be collected and disclosed to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).

This course does not qualify participants to control traffic with a Stop/Slow bat.
