Control Traffic with a Stop/Slow bat

Course Overview
On successful completion of this course trainees in the resources and infrastructure industries will be able to demonstrate the correct method for installation/removal of signs and devices in accordance with traffic management plans and controlling traffic using a STOP/SLOW bat in accordance with approved procedures set by the Queensland Government.

The course will also provide the trainee with the knowledge and practical skills as a traffic controller to plan and prepare their work; coordinate traffic; operate radios; and clean up the worksite.

Anyone who wishes to gain employment in the Traffic Control industry.

Traffic Control (Full Course)
Course Requirements

To attend this course, you will need to:

  • Have held an Australian or foreign provisional or open drivers licence within the last 5 years
  • Be able to read and write Basic English (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement) • Bring photographic ID to the course
  • Be aware, that upon submission of their application to QLD Transport, participants will be required to submit their criminal history and health status.

Please note: Traffic Controllers will be required to hold a General Construction Induction White Card to operate on work sites.

Although this is not a pre-requisite to complete the Traffic Controller training with All States Training, it is a requirement to be able to work on any traffic sites.

Course Duration

This course has two components, including on and off the job training. To achieve a successful outcome, participants must complete the following:

  1. Theory/Practical training: 8 hours (nominal) – completed in classroom environment using TMR approved training resources
  2. Practical training: a minimum of 20 hours – after attending theory training, participants complete a minimum of 20 hours vocational placement. Placement is completed on live traffic control sites under supervision of suitably experienced and qualified mentors provided by a Traffic Control Company.

Course Assessments

Participants are to successfully complete a written assessment and simulated practical assessment in the classroom.
After completion of 20 hours of vocational placement, participants undergo an observation assessment to finalise their practical training. Participants have 3 months from the date of initial theory training to complete all assessment components.

Upon completion of all assessments and issuing of Statement of Attainment, participants apply for a Traffic Controller Industry Authority Card through the Department of Main Roads & Transport (TMR)

Traffic Control (Renewal)
Course Requirements To renew your traffic controller accreditation in Queensland, you are required to successfully complete the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) approved training program and demonstrate currency of industry practice as a Traffic Controller.

Your Traffic Controller Industry Authority Card must be renewed every three (3) years. It is your responsibility to ensure that you maintain current accreditation when performing traffic controller duties.

To attend this course, you will need to:
  • Be able to read and write Basic English (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement)
  • Bring photographic ID and current TC card to the course
Course Duration Theory/Practical training: 8 hours (nominal) – completed in classroom environment using TMR approved training resources.
Course Assessments Participants will be required to complete a written assessment in the classroom, in addition to providing required evidence of industry currency.

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)/Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) is not offered for this course.

To show industry currency, participants are to complete a Currency of Industry Practice and provide evidence of traffic control work performed within the past 12 months, as required TMR. Participants have 3 months from the date of initial theory training to complete all assessment components.

Queensland only - In addition to RIIWHS205E, students completing this course will also achieve competency in RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace and RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures.

Upon completion of all assessments and issuing of Statement of Attainment, participants can renew their Traffic Controller Industry Authority Card with TMR.
